On a podcast this morning I heard someone say “His phone was ringing off the hook.” At work I often say that “I must sound like a stuck record.” What other idioms are technologically out-of-date?
@simonwoods Rewind should definitely be on the list, nice one! Fast forward is still pretty descriptive of what you’re doing if you speed up the audio/video though?
@adoran2 Definitely technically correct but I think the culture has already broken it; not only was it glued to the idea of using tape but UX, especially on mobile devices, has relegated it to the same shelf as “rewind”.
From a practicaly POV I support it; there is no longer a need to move through a tape, and per my previous example we have much better tech now such as asking “What did they say?”
@adoran2 “Fast forward” and “rewind”. Whenever I ask Siri to “skip” it just feels wrong.

@adoran2 “The check is in the mail”
@helgeg I like it.

@adoran2 “Dial” the phone number.
@adoran2 Play the whole “album”
@Pilchuck That’s a good one!
