I’ve been using the brilliant Yodeck at work and at home for digital signage. The system runs on a Raspberry Pi, either self-assembled or purchased directly from them. They allow you to have one player for free.
Here’s a collection of widgets and sources that I have been using for the displays:
Web pages
- Berkhamsted weather information and maps from Meteoblue
- Earth wind map, focused on Western Europe and Africa
- Literature clock. Note that if you are displaying this in an office you will want the version that skips the NSFW quotes.
- London weather information and maps from Meteoblue
- Transport for London service board showing the status of all tube and overground lines
Social media
- indieweb.social Mastodon showing posts from the fediverse that have gained traction on this server
- indieweb.social Mastodon local posts showing everything for accounts hosted by this specific server
- micro.blog Discover timeline
Standalone widgets
- World clock showing the time and weather for each of our offices. The background for each clock changes with the time of day but will not update until the widget is redrawn on screen, e.g. as part of a playlist. You can fork this on codepen.io and choose your own cities and timezones.
