{"id":89,"date":"2005-01-20T20:16:31","date_gmt":"2005-01-20T20:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/applecrumble.wordpress.com\/2005\/01\/20\/tube-signal\/"},"modified":"2017-09-20T11:31:27","modified_gmt":"2017-09-20T11:31:27","slug":"tube-signal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andrewdoran.uk\/blog\/2005\/01\/20\/tube-signal\/","title":{"rendered":"Tube signal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'>On my way home today, while waiting for a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Barnet_tube_station\" title=\"High Barnet tube station\">High Barnet<\/a> tube train at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moorgate_station\" title=\"Moorgate station entry at Wikipedia\">Moorgate<\/a>, I saw the platform attendant holding up his white bat to signal that the train could leave.  This happens all over the tube network, and I&#8217;ve always wondered how the drivers can see the signal when they are buried in their carriages.  So&#8230;I asked!  It&#8217;s not magic, but it&#8217;s clever &#8211; the attendant is holding up the bat to a camera located halfway along the platform which transmits the image to a monitor inside the driver&#8217;s cab.
